Geographical Aspects:

 

The Department of Maipϊ is located the 68Ί 56 ' Longitude West and 32Ί 59 ' of South Latitude, to a height of 804 MSNM. It is located in the north of Mendoza's province. It is part of the Great Mendoza's conglomerate and is located 15 km to the southeast of the provincial capital.   

 

The City was founded in 1861 by the friars mercedarios on the arid plain that extends through the center and the east of the province, their expansion was carried out to expense of lands dedicated to the agriculture using a system of channels to derive water of the river Mendoza.  

 

The predominant cultivation in the oasis is the grape. Their important industrial activity is guided toward the metallurgy and the agricultural industries, mainly cellars that locate the department in the third provincial place regarding its production of wines. 

 

The Climate is arid with tendency to the warm one. The annual precipitations oscillate between the 200 mm and 300 mm. The maximum temperature of 37Ί C in Summer and the minimum one is 1Ί C in Winter.   

 

The predominant winds are western and Southwest, besides there are characteristic winds coming from the Northwest in the station of Autumn-winter (Wind Zonda).
